Egypt protests
I have been writing about the current events and protests in the Middle East and their correlation to the spread of the Gospel. When hearing about protests breaking out in these different countries you have to realise that each one is completely different.
If you have been following along in the other articles you will recall that I said that it is very possible that the new government in Tunisia might be more friendly towards evangelism than the previous one was.
This however, may not be the case with Egypt. Egypt, already is a difficult country to serve in. There are frequently acts of violence acted against local believers. There are already laws forbidding evangelism. However now that the protests have started, if the government falls as they did in Tunisia what would be the result?
One thing you need to remember is that in Egypt there has been an opposition group for a long time. The Muslim brotherhood is highly organised and has been persecuted against for many years. Their members have been arrested, tortured, and even killed.
50% of Egyptians are illiterate. This makes them very susceptible to being ruled by an extremist faction. If you doubt this, look at other poor illiterate countries that have become terrorist playgrounds overnight. Just look at Afghanistan, Pakistan, Gaza, or Somalia. These countries were easy prey.
We need to be praying that Egypt does not go from being an even more closed country under sheria law.
There are now many Muslim background believers in Egypt. An even more repressive regime in Egypt could mean danger for them.
