Tunisia: Polish Priest killed
Tunisia has generally been a very secular country over the years. However, since the fall of the previous regime many have been worried that an Islamic party might come into power.
This is also something that is widely feared throughout all the new revolutions taking place throughout the Arab World.
This fear is based upon what happened in Iran during the Iranian revolution in 1979. A pro American dictatorship was overthrown and replaced with the Sharia based government we see today.
This week in Tunis, there were protests by Islamists outside of the ministry of the interior, for the closure of a brothel. Although, I am all for the closure of brothels this is significant. This is the first time that radicals have rallied together to do anything since the fall of the previous government.
Also in the same week, one Polish priest was found dead outside of the capital with a slit throat.
These things should concern us as Christians for the believers in Tunisia. The Church there is made up entirely of folks from Muslim backgrounds. This makes things more difficult for them. If they are found, by these groups, it could mean death for them.
Continue to be in prayer for more freedoms to emerge in Tunisia.
